January 6th, 2009 at 19:36:39 The infantry req're tank and artillery support--that is why they send a "Battle Group".
January 6th, 2009 at 19:59:38 Finally at least we now have a government in power that gives a shit about the armed forces and is investing the dollars to boot. (I hope the liberals never get back into power).
January 6th, 2009 at 20:22:37 in the strictest sense fo the word those aren't 1s. they are kind of a hybrid between 1s and 2s...we call them C2s...check out our defence website for more info
January 6th, 2009 at 20:45:36 It's been put on public domain by the armed forces (combat camera) so I would guess they know it's safe to release to the public
January 6th, 2009 at 21:08:35 Those are from our country we know what kind of equipment we have thank you very much...
January 6th, 2009 at 21:31:34 Right now, the Tories are reaping the benefits of Paul Martin's last three balanced budgets. If they're as bad with Canadians' money as they've historically been, we'll end up with junk anyway. The words LSVW and Iltis come readily to mind now. Point: no matter who's in government, if they have to choose between the Army and, well, just about anything else, the Army gets the leftovers.
January 6th, 2009 at 21:54:33 least you knew what I meant
January 6th, 2009 at 22:17:32 Close. This is the first time that canadian tanks have engaged in combat since the Korean war. Canadian tanks were part of 4CMBG stationed in Germany throughout the cold war. Leopard C1s from the Strathcona's were also deployed as part of KFOR in Kosovo.
January 6th, 2009 at 22:40:31 This is the first time since the korean war that canadian tanks have been on foreign soil :)
January 6th, 2009 at 23:03:30 They're Leopard C2s, not C1s. That's what DND is saying, and they look like C2s with MEXAS to me. Whether they are the same units that went to Kosovo, that's never been stated anywhere I've seen.
January 6th, 2009 at 23:26:29 Those aren't Leopard 1s
January 7th, 2009 at 23:49:28 dous Leopard 1 has atmotatic or manual reloding system?
January 7th, 2009 at 00:12:27 yo to answer ur question about the leopards from germany well, am an army cadet and i found out from my officers and buddies in the reserves and a mcpl from the dragoons, and its not official yet but the way it looks is if conservatives stay in government we'll get em if liberals win we'll end up with some piece of shit.
January 7th, 2009 at 00:35:26 there is a DND paper titled "Cancellation of MGS Program" back six months ago
January 7th, 2009 at 00:58:25 Can't believe there's so many coalitionfootage on the web. Everybody can watch this, everybody. Might become handy for planing attacks?!
January 7th, 2009 at 01:21:24 sound like good, we proud of guys, take care
January 7th, 2009 at 01:44:23 Hey zakspeedf1...they look like HESH (High Explosive Squash Head) rounds to me. Armor peircing rounds won't be needed. Squash heads are the best kit out there for punching through mud walls. Cheers
January 7th, 2009 at 02:07:22 Go get 'em boys. Show those cowards who REAL WARRIORS ARE!
January 7th, 2009 at 02:30:21 Much love to our boys down in Afghanistan! Give 'em hell and come back home safe :)
January 7th, 2009 at 02:53:20 What kind of rounds are they loading up?
January 7th, 2009 at 03:16:19 It's a half decent vehicle.. but it's a LAV. A LAV can't replace a Tank. ;D
January 7th, 2009 at 03:39:18 Gota like like the Krauts for making good tanks! Just need a little Canadian elbow grease to make 'em better. Leo-1's in a Museum eh?? Perhaps the German Army should take a few of these beasts out of the museum and contribute more to the Afghan effort!
January 7th, 2009 at 04:02:17 the armorr schoool ion gagetown has said that the royal canadian dragoons are gettin somw of the leps c2 and TO EVERYONE! CANADA IS GETTIN THE PINK SLIP TO A WHOLE DIVIVSION OF GERMANYS MBT THE LEAPARD 2 A6!!!WITH URANIUM ROUNDS THAT FIRE 3 KM A SEC!!1 GO ARMOR /RCD!/STRATS!
January 7th, 2009 at 04:25:16 The Leopards here appear to be Leopard C1's (1A3s or 1A4s) with the MEXAS Armour as opposed to Leopard C2's (1A3's or 4's with modified 1A5 turrets). This is consistent with reports that the most heavily protected leopards were sent to afghanistan first. These appear to be the same units that went to Kosova. Can anyone confirm this?
January 7th, 2009 at 04:48:15 For clarification, these are Leopard C2s which are NOT the same as Leopard 2. The Leopard C2 is a Leopard 1A3 with a 1A5 turret plus a few upgrades. (Which makes them roughly equivalent to an improved 1A5.) The Leopard C2s in Afghanistan are also all equipped with add-on armor kits.
